About Us ACAP builds pathways for people who have disabilities to express their passions and demonstrate their abilities in the community around them. ACAP is not merely an assemblage of members and staff, but is composed of people coming together to work, learn, adapt, and serve the community. We endeavor to build up the larger community, and in so doing, discover our valued place within it. Our Staff ACAP has a committed, creative, and trained staff featuring five certified recreation therapy specialists, one certified social worker, one certified nursing assistant, and an emergency medical technician. Additionally, three staff members have been with the organization for over 20 years, providing stability and consistency in service delivery. ACAP regularly sponsors recreation therapy interns from top-ranked programs in the state, who help deliver programs and care for members while learning and practicing on the job. Our Mission ACAP’s mission is to encourage people with disabilities to achieve their highest potential and to acquire life-long skills that will enable them to become contributing and valued members within their communities. Our Partners ACAP has more than 60 active partnerships with businesses, organizations, and groups. We have worked decades with some partners. Below are a few of our strongest partners. We appreciate everyone who has supported ACAP as partners over the years. Dance Tracks JK Lee Black Belt Studio Wildlife in Need Center The Potter’s Shop Retzer Nature Center Plowshare Fair Trade Market Reaching TreeTops Yoga Waukesha Civic Theatre Heartland Hospice Waukesha YMCA Our Philosophy Since our place is within the context of the community, we do not separate ourselves by segregated facilities or signage denoting our distinction from the community. We are members of it and therefore strive to make our presence visible as fellow citizens and consumers—not visitors. In the News ACAP is honored to be recognized by local media. We believe this recognition is a powerful showcase of the impact our organization and our members have on our community.
